How Can severe Pain And Burning Sensation In The Knee Be Treated?
In the last couple of days, every time I kneel down and put pressure on my right knee I experience an intense electrifying burning sensation to the outside and down from my kneecap. The intensity reduces immediately when I get up (very quickly I might add!) but there is still a burning sensation for some time after. I m sure it is nerve pain as I have experienced nerve pain after ankle surgery and with shingles but I can t imagine what I may have done to cause this!

Intense and electrifying burning sensations are generally related to nerve damage, but this burning sensation might be a response of the nerve to several knee tissue injuries, such as pressure inside the knee, ligament inflammation, etc.
There are some knee injuries to mention:
- Tendonitis of the patella (inflammation of the tendon of the kneecap.)
- Bursitis of the knee (there is an accumulation of fluid on the knee bursae from repetitive movements of the knee.)
- A tear of the knee meniscus (this occurs generally after the evident trauma of the knee.)
- Iliotibial band syndrome, that is an irritation of a ligament on the side of the knee.
- Fluid-filled cyst of the knee.
It is important examining you and having some other examinations after, to make a differential diagnosis.
You can try avoiding to kneel on that knee because it worsens the pain and the injury.
